The change in the verses between the two diminished chords (at the beginning
"Edim" and "C#dim") is due to the root that is played by the bass on the ELO
recording. It is not necessary to change here as the two chords are
basically the same, just different inversions of the same notes ("Edim":
E-Bb-Db-G and "C#dim": C#-G-Bb-E). I still think the change sounds nice.
